The In-Between

A little while ago I was helped by an amazing program, wear2start. This is a group of ladies who help women with clothing style. It was an amazing experience, and it was very affirming. The people I dealt with were very supportive and I ended up with a lot of clothes.

And that is my problem. I am still not fully “out” (or as my counsellor says, “I have not fully come into myself”), so I am not comfortable wearing fully feminine clothing is all areas of my life. At work I have worn women’s jeans, but with a men’s dress shirt or a hoodie (I have a very casual work environment). Going outside my apartment feels like a challenge because some of my neighbours are quite conservative.

I bring this up today because I am going out for coffee with a trans friend in a very trans friendly coffee shop. I had planned an entire outfit, from boots, flowing pants and a short dress top. I thought I could tuck in the top and then untuck it at the coffee shop, but I chickened out and wore a hoodie. I did wear the pants and boots though
